Villains

In short: classify your opponents into profiles so you know how to exploit them.

Plan: Free ✅

What it's for

Not every opponent plays the same. Knowing whether you're up against a tight player, a maniac or a "fish" changes your decision. Villains organizes opponents into profiles (archetypes) based on their behavior, so you can adjust your strategy.

The 7 archetypes

The whole read revolves around 7 official archetypes. Each one comes from a way of playing (VPIP, PFR, blind steal and 3-bet) and already comes with the exploit playbook:

Archetype Who they are How to exploit them
🟢 Passive Fish (calling station) Calls too much with weak hands, doesn't bluff Heavy value, bet 3 streets, don't bluff
🟢 Short-Stacked Rec (short recreational) Buys in short (20–70bb), plays emotionally Isolate in position, ABC poker, don't overbluff
🔴 Nit / Rock Only enters with premium hands, overfolds Steal blinds relentlessly; back off if they push back
🔵 TAG Reg (solid) Balanced ranges, defends well Avoid marginal spots out of position, lean on position
🟠 LAG / Aggro Reg Opens and 3-bets a lot, wants to dominate the pot 3-bet light, trap with strong hands, float
🟡 Trap Player Slowplays, check/calls and explodes on the river Control the pot, believe their river sizing
🟣 Aggro Whale (maniac) Plays any hand, aggression with no rhyme or reason Don't bluff, bluff-catch strong, let them lose on their own

The 10% rule: if an opponent steals blinds above 45% AND 3-bets above 10%, they're a LAG (orange) — your job is to counter-attack, not run away.

How to use it

Today the tool is a manual classifier (beta version): you enter the villain's numbers and it returns the archetype + the playbook.

  1. Open Villains (under Study → Stats → Villains).
  2. In the classifier, type in the villain's 4 stats you want to read — VPIP, PFR, steal (ATS) and 3-bet. You pull these numbers from your HUD or your table read.
  3. Right away, it shows the best-matching archetype (with checkmarks for which stats hit) and the exploit playbook for that archetype.
  4. Below that sits a fixed reference of the 7 archetypes for quick lookup, plus the project's rules of thumb.
  5. Bring the playbook to the table: against someone who overcalls, bet for value and bluff less; against someone who folds too easily (Nit), steal without mercy.

An honest limitation

On Zoom / Rush & Cash you switch tables every hand, so you usually get few hands against each opponent — each villain's sample is small. That's why deeper automatic classification is a future step; for now the focus is giving you the best read possible with the data that exists.

Common questions

  • Why do some villains have little information? Because of the fast format: few hands against each one. The more you face the same player, the more reliable the profile.
